In India, they call it Yoga. In Greece, we call it Eudaimonia. Both traditions teach us that true well-being is an inside job. At our studio, we use the breath, the mat, and mindful movement to help you cultivate a flourishing mind, body, and spirit.
The Embody School is a woman-owned wellness and healing studio providing classes and workshops that will empower you on your healing journey by utilizing somatic therapies which are evidence-based. We teach yoga, TRE, meditation, and mindful art workshops while also providing Somatic Experiencing, Reiki healing, and trauma recovery coaching.
Spiridoula (Spira) first opened as Spira Yoga Shala as a space for people to come together in community and share practices for self-care and healing. Unfortunately, she opened in March, 2020, right before the Covid pandemic. After a year and a half struggle, she finally had to close the doors in 2021, as Covid showed no end in sight.
With patience, persistence, training, and dedication to her own embodiment practices, Spira is ready to offer these skills (and more) once again at The Embody School.
Our mission is to help people feel better in their bodies and lives through yoga, mindfulness, and practices that cultivate resilience, wellbeing, and self-care.
While many yoga classes focus on intensity and performance, we offer a different approach. Our classes invite you to slow down, tune in, and build a deeper connection with your body. We believe that true wellbeing comes not from pushing harder, but from learning to listen.
Our core values are Acceptance, Inclusivity, Creativity, Empowerment, Education, Awareness, Community, and Compassion.
At The Embody School, we believe the body holds wisdom. Through yoga, mindfulness, and other embodiment practices, we learn to listen to our bodies, cultivate self-awareness, and create greater balance in our lives. By bringing attention to the connection between body, mind, and emotions, we can move through life with greater ease, resilience, and self-acceptance.
When the body is in homeostasis, it has the ability to heal itself as well as prevent illness. However, many people suffer from chronic stress and trauma, which affect the proper functioning of the brain, nervous system, and many other systems of the body.
Embodiment practices regulate our nervous systems and get us out of our heads and back into our bodies, where healing takes place.
My experience as a musician of over 30 years, an arts educator of 17 years, combined with my studies in somatic therapies and psychology for over 10 years has shown me the ways that art can help us heal.
Expressive arts can help us regulate our nervous systems and even create new neural pathways. Whether you're resonating with frequencies during a sound bath or participating in bilateral or neurographic drawing, you don't need to be a trained artist to use these tools. I've designed workshops to be accessible to all, regardless of skill level.
Mind Body medicine is finally making its way into the mainstream and we're here to guide you on your journey. We offer many evidence-based practices that were not always available in the past. Health professionals are now recommending these practices (including my own PCP!) which gives me confidence that we're heading in the right direction.
